Services
Batteries
 Batteries are accepted at the MRF main office during normal business hours. Batteries that are accepted include: Alkaline (AAA, AA, C, D etc.), Nickel Cadmium, Nickel Metal Hydride, Lithium Ion, and Lead Acid (including car batteries). Rechargables batteries are free to dispose of and Nonrechargable batteries are free up to 3 pounds total.
Cardboard
 What Materials Are Accepted?
Brown corrugated cardbaord, brown grocery bags.

How Should They Be Prepared?
Cardboard must be clean & dry, flattened and placed in a bag, box or bundled.

What Materials Are NOT Accepted
Soiled or wet cardboard (IE: no pizza boxes!), white or gray cardboard (IE: cereal boxes), cardboard coated with wax, tin or plastic.


Cell Phones
 Cell Phones are accepted at the MRF during normal business hours. All donated cell phones are given to the Manitowoc Domestic Violence Center.
Compost
 Sifted and unsifted compost is available at the Recycling Center during normal business hours. Unsifted compost is available for free. Sifted compost is available for a fee. Loaders are available at the Basswood Road Compost for large loads and deliveries are also available for a fee. Please call the Recycling Center for details.
Computers & Electronics
 Computer and electronic devices are accepted at the MRF during normal business hours for a fee. Items that are accepted include: Computer processing units (CPUs), computer monitors, printers, scanners, key boards, televisions, VCRs, stereos, and microwaves.
Glass
 What Materials Are Accepted?
Clear, Green or Brown containers.

How Should They Be Prepared?
Clean well and seperate by color. Remove all lids or caps. Remove labels if possible.

What Materials are NOT Accepted?
Window glass, light bulbs, ceramics, porcelain, clay products, drinking glasses, ovenware, and dishes.

Lightbulbs and Ballasts
 Lightbulbs are accepted at the MRF during normal business hours, and include: 2-8 foot fluorescent, compact fluorescent, High Intensity Discharge (HID), sodium, metal halide, and mercury vapor, incandescent, flood lights, and spot lights. Both PCB and non-PCB ballasts are accepted.
Mercury
 Mercury thermometers and mercury containing devices are accepted at the MRF during normal business hours. Residents that bring in mercury thermometers qualify for a digital thermometer exhange. One digital thermometer will be exchanged per household that brings in any mercury thermometer. Additional mercury containing devices that are accepted include: Thermostats, barometers, mercury switches, and bulk mercury. Residents dropping off mercury at the MRF are asked to bring items in sealed containers.
Paper
 What Material Is Accepted?
Newspaper, junk mail, magazines, office paper, paperback pooks, telephone books, and grocery bags.

How Should They Be Prepared?
Paper must be clean & dry and placed in a brown paper bag or bundled.

What Materials Are NOT Accepted?
Soiled or wet paper. Carbon paper. Papers coated with foil, wax glitter or glue. Construction paper. Handbooks (unless covers & binders are completely removed). Wrapping paper.


Plastic
 What Materials Are Accepted?
#1 and #2 marked containers. Generally, if the container opening is smaller than the base, this is an acceptable plastic

How Should They Be Prepared?
Empty, wash well and flatten. No caps allowed. Labels removed if possible.

What Materials are NOT Accepted?
Any plastic numbered as follows: #3, #4, #5, #6, #7. Any plastic that is unnumbered. Any #1 or #2 containers not bottle shaped. No motor or cooking oil plastic containers. No plastic wraps or bags.


Tin, Aluminum, and Steel
 What Materials Are Accepted?
Tin, steel, aluminum and bi-metal containers. Foils, tins, coated cans. Totally empty aerosol cans.

How Should They Be Prepared?
Empty, rinse well and flatten. Remove labels if possible.

What materials Are NOT Accepted
Full or partially full containers. Aerosol cans containing any product. Appliances of any size. Demolition materials. Aluminum siding.


Woodchips
 Great for ground cover and landscaping, woodchips are available at the MRF during normal business hours for a fee. Loaders are available Monday-Friday for large loads. Deliveries are also available for a fee, please call the MRF for details.
Yard Waste
 What Materials Are Accepted?
Grass, leaves, garden waste, bushes, branches (less than 5 feet long and 6 inches in diameter). Christmas trees in season.

How Should They Be Prepared?
Place in the appropriate pile at the compost site. DO NOT leave behind any bags/containers used to transport the compost.

What Materials are NOT Accepted?
No large branches, stumps, or other unchippable wood. No animal waste. No sod or soil. No construction or demolition material including rocks and lumber (treated or untreated).
